The Public Benefits Specialist responsible for performing financial counseling duties for all patients scheduled for services.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

Responsibilities:

  • Public Benefits Staff are responsible for obtaining necessary patient demographic information and personal financial information to screen patients for various financial assistance programs.  This includes selecting accurate patient accounts, completing accurate applications for federal, state and local programs, legally acting on behalf of the patient with the county for Medicaid and/or disability determination, communicating with clinicians and/or family members to obtain additional financial information and/or complete necessary forms, understanding the federal and internal federal poverty guidelines and charity approval policy to make an accurate and best financial decision for the patient and organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1-2 years experience in healthcare industry.
  • Understanding of Revenue Cycle including admission, billing, payments and denials.  Comprehensive knowledge of patient insurance process for obtaining authorizations and benefits verification.  Knowledge of Health Insurance requirements. Knowledge of medical terminology or CPT or procedure codes.
  • Patient Access experience with managed care/insurance and Call Center experience highly preferred.
  • Combination of post-secondary education and experience will be considered in lieu of degree

Hours

Full-time, days, 40 hours per week, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
